Not convinced you can make a difference? Yes, certain industries like aviation, refineries, and agriculture have significant impact on the environment, and it might seem like an individual’s efforts are just “a drop in the bucket.” But little ol’ you has a huge carbon footprint!

Each person in the U.S. emits 19 tons of greenhouse gases per year, on average.

Individuals have the power to vote, choose what to buy, what to eat, and to influence others.

People have power if we use it.

A few things we do at our house—solar rooftop powers the whole house and electric cars. You don’t find me running the water when washing dishes. I love my bike! Our native plants flourish with low water. We don’t buy bottled water. We do buy food from local farmers, and grow herbs and fruit. We recycle. I know I can do more.

Beyond the household things, we participate in the San Louis Obispo Climate Coalition, and The Audubon Society.

I know not everyone can install solar or buy electric cars. Let’s start a conversation. What kinds of things are you doing, or plan to? How could you influence your friends, your school-mates or office associates?
